Fassi French Round SBK 2015

Rea ends Fassi French Round with the double

The second race at Magny-Cours was won by Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team), the World Champion doing the double for the fifth time this year after a three-rider battle raged from the start. His podium tally of 22 puts him equal with Troy Bayliss who achieved the feat in 2002, and is the second highest number of podiums in a season in the all-time list.

Rea masters wet conditions in Race 1 at Magny-Cours

The opening WorldSBK race of the day at a very wet Magny-Cours has been won by newly crowned Superbike World Champion Jonathan Rea after a reduced race distance of 19 laps. The Kawasaki Racing Team rider overhauled long team leader and team mate Tom Sykes, who made a mistake at Turn 8, eventually finishing 4.7s behind Rea at the flag. For Rea it was a sweet victory and the first for him at the Magny-Cours circuit.

WSBK Magny-Cours
France staged its first World Superbike event in the first ever season, 1988. Fabrizio Pirovano won aboard his Yamaha at Le Mans, in what turned out to be the only race to take place that weekend. In 1989, the races were staged for the only time at Paul Ricard on the south coast, as Stephane Mertens and Giancarlo Falappa picked up the victories. The historic Le Mans circuit reappeared on the calendar in 1990, when local hero Raymond Roche achieved a superb double. Later that season, he would become the first French World Champion in WorldSBK.

Situated close to the towns of Magny-Cours and Nevers, the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours (to give it its full title) is found in the centre of France and some 250 kilometres from capital city Paris. On no less than 15 occasions has it hosted the historic Bol d’Or motorcycle race and was also a home of Formula 1 car racing until 2008.

Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati SBK Team) went one better than in race 1 to win the second race of the day at a very hot and sunny Jerez circuit in Spain. Unlike the opening encounter race 1 winner Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) was unable to break away after taking the holeshot for the second time and despite stretching his advantage in the early laps was passed with ten laps to go by Davies who went on to grab his 9th win of 2015.
